11.03.2024 /// (EN) Long time since the last update… These past few months I have traveled back from Athens to Germany, after attending the Safe Havens Freedom Talks; from Germany and the last meetings of the Academy for contemporary theatre journalism back to France. In February I’ve celebrated the Lunar New Year at La Générale and welcomed talented artists residents, only to start grieving the space we occupy, as the collective is to be kicked out of the premises on the 30th of November. We will not leave without a fight and will soon be hosting a series of talks about the right to city in Paris, where space is so precious. I am otherwise busy with giving writing workshops to young people as part of a research temporarily titled Children of the Labyrinth with the Lou Pantail theatre company. We look at how the French justice system treats minors and weave into our questions the myth of the Minotaurus. What else… I have just read and recommend Minor Detail by Adania Shibli, published by the excellent Fitzcarraldo editions.
(FR) Il s’est passé du temps depuis la dernière mise à jour… Ces derniers mois j’ai voyagé d’Athènes en Allemagne, après m’être rendue aux Freedom Talks de l’ONG Safe Havens; et de l’Allemagne je suis retournée en France après les derniers rendez-vous de l’Académie pour un journalisme de théâtre contemporain. En février j’ai fêté le Nouvel An Lunaire à La Générale et accueilli des artistes de talent en résidence, tout cela pour en fait commencer à faire le deuil du lieu que nous occupons puisque le collectif se fait expulser le 30 novembre prochain. On ne partira pas sans se battre et nous accueillons bientôt un cycle de rencontres sur le droit à la ville à Paris, où l’espace est si précieux. À part ça, je donne des ateliers d’écriture à des jeunes dans le cadre d’une recherche avec la compagnie de théâtre Lou Pantail, intitulée temporairement Enfants du Labyrinthe. Nous nous intéressons à comment le système judiciaire français traite les mineur-es et tissons à travers nos questions le mythe du Minotaure. Quoi d’autre… J’ai récemment lu Un détail mineur d’Adania Shibli, que je recommande, publié à l’origine par les excellentes éditions Fitzcarraldo et traduit chez Actes Sud.
31.10.2023 /// (EN) For a month I was lucky to have been welcome by the mare Verlag Künstlerhaus near Hamburg to work further on my book Hong Kong: struggling home with the patronage of the Roger Willemsen Stiftung. There is nothing more luxurious than having a bit of time to let feelings settle in writing. My idea of the text has evolved in significant ways over this month, it’s grown in more intimate, braver and darker tones. I’m now moving around Germany for the next couple of months to attend the Academy for contemporary theatre journalism #4.
(FR) Pendant un mois, j’ai eu la chance d’être accueillie par la résidence d’artistes de la maison d’édition mare, près de Hambourg, pour travailler à mon livre Hong Kong: struggling home, avec le soutien de la fondation Roger Willemsen. Il n’y a rien de plus luxueux que d’avoir un peu de temps pour laisser ses émotions se clarifier dans l’écriture. Mon idée du texte a beaucoup évolué au cours de ce mois, il a pris des tons plus intimes, plus courageux et plus sombres. Je suis maintenant sur les routes en Allemagne pour les deux prochains mois pour participer à la quatrième édition de l’Académie de journalisme théâtral contemporain.
(DE) Einen Monat lang durfte ich im mare Verlag Künstlerhaus in der Nähe von Hamburg, mit der Unterstützung der Roger Willemsen Stiftung, weiter an meinem Buch Hong Kong: struggling home arbeiten. Es gibt nichts Luxuriöseres, als Zeit zu haben, um Gefühle durch Schreiben zu klären. Meine Vorstellung vom Text hat sich in diesem Monat weiterentwickelt, er ist intimer, mutiger und dunkler geworden. Ich reise jetzt für die nächsten Monate durch Deutschland, um an der Akademie für zeitgenössischen Theaterjournalismus #4 teilzunehmen.

It’s been a long summer. 5-16th of July I was organising and taking part in Community of Time, a residency on Hong Kong diasporic perspectives at La Générale in Paris. A time to work again on A Tidal Home. End of July I was doing some dramaturgy at the United Networks Labs in Bräsen, Germany. August: some work on Été(s) who is always by my side.
(FR) Nouvelles glissantes d’un long été. Du 5 au 16 juillet j’organisais et je participais à la résidence Community of Time, sur les perspectives hongkongaises diasporiques à La Générale à Paris. L’occasion de travailler à nouveau sur A Tidal Home. Fin juillet j’étais regard extérieur pour les United Networks Labs de Bräsen, en Allemagne. En août, j’ai travaillé un peu à Été(s) qui m’accompagne toujours.

1.6.2023 /// (EN) Very happy to be writing one critical piece a day until the 11.6 for Plateforme Magazin during the africologne Festival. They will talk as much about the invited performances than about the cultural politics of the festival. Alternating between English and French, they are all translated into German. (FR) Jusqu’au 11.6 je publierai un essai critique par jour pour Plateforme Magazin pendant le festival africologne. Je compte écrire autant sur les performances invitées que sur la politique culturelle du festival. Les articles alterneront entre l’anglais et le français et seront traduits en allemand. 3.2.2023 /// (EN) Playing catch-up: my new residency at La Générale is coming to an end while I prepare for giving the writing workshop Home: Water memories, initiated in Hong Kong, at the Spring Festival in Paris. And a good news: my play for children I need to cross was re-invited to the Starke Stücke Festival (Frankfurt am Main, Germany) after being cancelled during the pandemic.
(FR) Nouvelles en retard : cette nouvelle résidence à La Générale se termine pendant que je me prépare à mener l’atelier d’écriture Home – Eau et mémoire que j’ai initié à Hong-Kong au Festival du Printemps, à Paris (et il est complet !). Une bonne nouvelle, ma pièce, J’ai besoin de traverser a été réinvitée au festival Starke Stücke (Francfort, Allemagne) après une annulation dûe à la pandémie.

31.10.2022 /// Un peu de retard dans les nouvelles… La résidence d’écriture de mon roman Été(s) s’est brillamment terminée fin août avec une lecture publique. Le LCB Diplomatique m’a ensuite commandé un court reportage littéraire qui a pris forme avec le titre : Un pays qui est un mur. Entretemps j’ai appris que j’avais été acceptée à une autre résidence d’écriture, à L’AiR Arts-Atelier 11 à Paris, pour l’essai que je souhaite écrire sur mon séjour à Hong-Kong en 2021. J’en posterai bientôt la présentation.
/// Catching up with news… My writing residency for my debut novel Summers // Été(s) ended beautifully with a public reading in August. I then got commissioned a short literary report by the LCB Diplomatique which became A country that is a wall. And in the meantime learned I had been accepted to a writing residency at Lairarts – Atelier 11, in Paris, for the essay I have been planning to write about my 2021 stay in Hong Kong. I will soon post about it.
