For me dramaturgy is paying attention to something until it makes sense. Being the collaborator you turn to when you need to keep in view the overarching desire or goal that was at the basis of a piece. Being the one to elaborate on a thought when everyone else is too tired to. Dramaturgy ranges from application writing, research, programme-writing, a quiet extra pair of eyes at the back of the rehearsal room to emotional labourer, midwife, coach, emergency brake, gardener.
